Johnny Flynn
Showband

In 1956, Johnny Flynn, then aged 23 and living in Tuam, put his first dance-band on the road. He was joined by his brothers Francie and Brendan, along with Tuam lads, Olly Maloney, Danny Kelly and Frankie Hannon. During the 1960s, the Johnny Flynn Showband played all over Ireland in ballrooms and marquees, travelled to play in Britain regularly and made seven tours of the U.S.A. and Canada. Hannon in particular was regarded by many as the man responsible for the distinctive sound which enthralled dancers throughout the country. He had a unique style of drumming and also sang all the Fats Domino hits.
